Broadneck Baseball and Softball Home of the Mighty Eagles

About Us

Over the past three years the primary youth baseball organizations in the area have been in discussions about how to strengthen the overall recreational and developmental baseball opportunities on the Broadneck Peninsula. A number of exciting cooperative programs between Broadneck Baseball (formerly Broadneck Little League & Mago Vista Baseball), Cape St. Claire Recreation Council, and Broadneck Select which were first implemented during the 2008 Spring season will be further expanded for 2009. This notice is intended to update you on the concepts of this cooperation and some of the opportunities that will be upcoming.

The overall baseball program is envisioned to consist of three tiers. In the first tier, there will continue to be recreational level play offered for players aged 4-18 provided by strong, local, community based teams. As a league we will continue our affiliation with Babe Ruth League/Cal Ripken Baseball – allowing for inter-league play with Annapolis Baseball, Severn Baseball, Severna Park (Green Hornets) Baseball, and Crofton Baseball.

The second tier of our program consists of the formation of Tournament Teams for players from ages 8-14, drawn from the pool of our recreational players. These Broadneck Tournament Teams will practice and play in tournaments, and in some cases the MABA Travel League, in order to provide experience against more advanced teams. For our Tournament teams, participation in tournaments would be coordinated with the recreational schedules to avoid conflicts, and will allow these players a greater number of challenging games in order to build their skills.

The third tier of the program will be the offering of full-time Select Teams for players aged 11-18. These players will not play on the recreational teams, but will play a schedule against other Select Teams in the area, and will also participate in tournaments during the season as a team. A single team at each age level will be formed in this tier; participation will be based on tryouts.

As participation in the top two tiers of the program will be competitively based, a formal evaluation process will be used, and will consist of two phases between November and March. Phase I of this program will take place on the weekend of November 15/16 at the Navy baseball stadium, where the top 24-30 players at each of the four levels between ages 11-14 (pre-high school only) will be identified. Phase II will be conducted the first weekend in March, at which time players will be further evaluated for participation in either the Select or Tournament teams. Evaluations and roster decisions for players in high school will be made following the high school season.

If you miss the November evaluations you are NOT excluded from the opportunity to play either Select or Tournament ball during the Spring. For more information about participation in the Select program, please visit our Broadneck Select website and fill out the registration form to obtain more information and updates about those tryouts. For more information about playing on a Broadneck Baseball Tournament Team, please visit our Tournament Team page.

Recreational team player evaluations and drafts by Broadneck Baseball will follow the Select/Tournament team tryouts, assuring that all participants will have the opportunity to play baseball in the Spring.

The intent of these programs is to provide an opportunity for all levels of ability and interest to play baseball in this area. We simply want to make baseball more fun and improve upon the experience for all.
