An Explanation of the Organizational Structure on the Broadneck Peninsula:
The overall baseball program is envisioned to consist of three tiers. In the first tier, there will continue to be recreational level play offered for players aged 4-18 provided by strong, local, community based teams. These teams will be affiliated with Babe Ruth League/Cal Ripken Baseball – allowing for inter-organizational play with Annapolis, Severn, and Severna Park.
The second tier of the program will consist of formation of tournament teams for players from ages 8-14, drawn from the pool of recreational players. These Broadneck Tournament Teams will practice and play in tournaments to supplement their experience against more advanced players. Participation in tournaments would be coordinated with the recreational schedules to avoid conflicts, and would allow these players a greater number of challenging games in order to build their skills.
The third tier of the program will be the offering of Select Teams for players aged 11-18. These players will not play on the recreational teams, but will play a schedule against other Select Teams in the area, and will also participate in tournaments during the season as a team. A single team at each age level will be formed in this tier; participation will be based on tryouts.
As participation in the top two tiers of the program will be competitively based, a formal evaluation process will be used. Try-outs will be conducted in early March, at which time players will be evaluated for participation on either the Select or Tournament teams. Evaluations and roster decisions for players in high school will be made following the high school season.
